Pre-reading

suggestion:  Keyboard ID instead of Note ID

 

Level 1

identify   note direction as up, down, repeat.  Letter names of notes on the grand staff from first line bass G to fifth line treble F.

(intervals: steps and skips, up or down.)

 

Level 2

identify  letter names of notes on the grand staff from first line bass G to fifth line treble F.

(intervals:  2nds, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, white keys only.)

 

Level 3

draw

- stems for notes on the staff in the proper direction.

- sharps, flats, naturals on the staff in proper placement.

- letter names of notes on the grand staff, incl. exterior space notes adjacent to the staff.

identify (intervals: 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, distance only.  Whole and half steps. )

 

Level 4

identify  letter names of notes on the grand staff up to 2 ledger lines above or below staff.

(intervals: 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, 7ths, octave, distance only.)

 

Level 5

identify intervals: major and perfect intervals, giving distance and quality, built on any white key.

write chords: white-key major and minor triads.  Scales: add accidentals to form major, natural minor, harmonic minor scales built on white keys.

 

Level 6

identify intervals: major, minor, perfect, giving distance and quality, built on any white key.

write intervals: major, minor, perfect, up only, from white keys.  Scales: major and minor, built on white keys.

identify and write chords: major and minor triads, built on any white or black key.
